A Brief History

Started almost a decade ago, Javalobby is a group of people who share a common interest in Java software development and the advancement of Java standards and software. The main purpose of Javalobby is to represent the needs and concerns of the Java developer and user community to the companies and organizations who have influence in the evolution of Java. We encourage all people who care about Java to stand together with us.

Java has generated enormous energy as a language, a platform, and a philosophy. There has been much progress, but also much turmoil. In recent months there has been a marked increase in the turmoil, with diverging corporate interests in the future of Java threatening the fundamental qualities that helped to create its enormous appeal. We plan to speak out to preserve and enhance those qualities.

Javalobby wholeheartedly endorses the concept of "write once, run anywhere" and wants to send that message clearly to tool vendors, OS vendors, hardware suppliers and standards groups. We want Java to be truly portable, reliable, open, standard, bug-free and high-performance. There are no dues or fees for membership, we are self-supporting through our own contributions. We have no group affiliation with or allegiance to any of the companies developing products related to Java, though we have members from many of the best known companies in the world. Our primary goal is to seek improvement of the tools and standards that affect all Java developers and users.

The Future of Javalobby

As the face of the Java industry has changed over the years, so have Javalobby's goals. Javalobby is still committed to keeping you abreast of the latest Java news and bringing together the best community of Java developers in the industry. In addition to our original goals, Javalobby is now committed to bringing you the best technical articles, presentations, and books.
