eUML2 Studio Edition 2.3.0 and EclipseDatabase 1.9.0

URL: UML Modeler and Database Modeler and Code Generator

Dear EclipseUML and EclipseDatabase users

The official EclipseDatabase is now marketed and distributed through the Soyatec's commercial channels. EclipseDatabase is now hosted at Soyatec and integrated with eUML2 .

eUML2 is a spin-off of EclipseUML from Omondo. The entire original technical co-founders of Omondo have moved to enhance and improve eUML2. eUML2 remains compatible with EclipseUML. All EclipseUML users can move flawlessly to this new product. They benefit active supports and more features than EclipseUML

Re: eUML2 Studio Edition 2.3.0 and EclipseDatabase 1.9.0

Dear friends,

The EclipseUML name, customers and software belong to Omondo and not to any other company. Omondo also has legal ownership of the java code concerning the UML reverse engineering code.

We announced over a year ago that EclipseDatabase will be replaced by Dali within the EclipseUML Studio package.

Check out our new EclipseUML Free Edition build expected in the next three weeks and you will be able to see that even our free ediiton has many more features than the complete eUML and EclipseDatabase recuperated by Soyatec.

Moreover, thanks to the new dedicated Omondo R&D team, EclipseUML has evolved considerably over the last year and now provides a complete model approach as opposed to Soyatec's solely Java-based approach.

EclipseUML users will be informed of the arrival of the new generation Omondo build by newsletter.

Re: eUML2 Studio Edition 2.3.0 and EclipseDatabase 1.9.0

Soyatec has the copyright of most of the codes used in EclipseUML as well through the split contract, signed in Mai 2006.

Re: eUML2 Studio Edition 2.3.0 and EclipseDatabase 1.9.0

Dear Friends,

It will be a year now that this dirty post had been published.
It seems that some users don't understand the difference between Soyatec eUML and EclipseUML 2008.

eUML is a simple drawing tool having live java code and class diagram graphic editor synchtonization. This is just an editor, no UML.
It is the same as a powerpoint
All the graphical information is stored in the java code.
Soyatec only have three diagrams class, sequence and usecase diagrams which are not even UML diagrams.
Class diagram use EMF transformation to export to uml 2.1. Other diagrams are only powerpoint diagrams :oops:

EclipseUML 2008 is an advance modeling tool having triple synchronization between UML editor+Java+UML Metamodel
All model is natively saved in the UML 2.1 metamodel using the same instance in memory and on disk.
EclipseUML provides 10 diagrams having Graphical and UML metamodel diagrams
EclipseUML 2008 doesn't need to export to xmi because we are using UML metamodel in our own metamodel which is in memory. It means that you have permanent access to the model and each change is live in the metamodel and in the java code.

More information on our architecture difference could be found at: http://www.eclipsedownload.com/new_architecture_features.html

EclipseUML is developed by a team of 20 full time members, while Soyatec is just developed by one or two members.
Note that we produced more java code in the last 12 months that we did in the past 4 years.

Concerning the last year post , I am pleased to ask Soyatec. Where is EclipseDatabase ? Is It just now an abandoned project with no users, no bug fixes.
It was also written that the entire original technical co-founder s of Omondo have moved to enhance and improve eUML. I had a look yesterday and noticed that eUML has not fixed any major bug or added any new feature in the last 18 months.

The question could be what is going on with Omondo after this terrible news of loosing EclipseDatabase plugin, Xavier Maysonnave and Yves Yang ?
One year after my answer is:
EclipseDatabase has been replaced by two solutions:
1. A model driven solution based on Hibernate and EJB code generation from xmi 2.1
2. A native JPA integration using Dali plugin and live annotation and model synchronization.

As a manager I did a difficult but the right choice to stop EclipseDatabase plugin because of the two xmi 2.1 and JPA new market specifications .

The entire original technical co-founders of Omondo have moved to enhance and improve eUML2. It was a very good opportunity for Omondo to invest in a new young team full of talents. We have recruited young engineers and have trained them to work within the GEF and EMF spirit of Eclipse. It is today a great success which is proven by our last six months changelogs:

New February 2008 features:

1. NEW MDA modeling in the Class diagram with no Java code generation
- UML Model Editior synchronized with UML diagrams
- UML Property View synchronized with UML diagrams / Java Code
- Live UML Metamodel and diagrams synchronization (not only the class diagram)
2. Live code and model Annotation suport
3. JPA and Dali full support in the class diagram
4. JSF 1.2/2 full support code generation (could immediately by open by the WTP JSF Editor)
5. Seam 2.0 full support of all stereotypes
6. Spring Reverse engineering
7. BEA Weblogic 10 deployment
8. Use Case Diagram graphical presentation improvement
9. UML Modeling Perspective

In December 2007, the new features and improvements were:
* JBoss Seam support New
* Export Activity Diagram into BPEL file New
* Association property update Enhancement
* Reverse engineering speed Enhancement
* Reverse engineering refactoring Enhancement
* Attributes and methods preferences Enhancement
* Class diagram corruption fixed
* Import of existing project fixed

* JBoss 4.2 support Enhancement
* JSF 1.2 and 2 support Enhancement
* Attributes default values fixed
* Methodes update fixed
* Diagram repair Enhancement

* UML2 2.2 Upgrade
* GEF 3.3.1 Upgrade
* Sequence Diagram Self message fixed
* Usecase Diagram Association fixed
* Attributes update fixed
* Methods update fixed
* Association multiplicity fixed
* Interface show hide fixed

In September 2007 , the new features and improvements were:
* Eclipse 3.3 Upgrade
* EMF 2.3.0. Upgrade
* UML2 2.1 Upgrade
* GEF 3.3 Upgrade
* Sequence diagram Enhancement
* Project Documentation Enhancement
* EJB 3 code generation Enhancement
* Hibernate 3 code generation Enhancement
* EJB 2 code generation Enhancement
* Hibernate 2 code generation Enhancement
* Strut code generation Enhancement
* JSF code generation Enhancement
* EJB 3 reverse Enhancement
* Tag/model Architecture New
* Generic Type Support New
* Database Modeling New
* Nested Package New
* Dependencies extensions New
* Reverse of Association New

We hope that this post will help users not to be confused by what is EclipseUML 2008 and what is a fake copy of EclipseUML provided by Soyatec.
