Exam Leader Rotation

This thread is for current moderators. If you are not a moderator and would like to become one, you can mail to javablackbelt dot admin at gmail dot com.

Motivated by Henryk's thread ,and discussion happened last year we are going to reselect our exams.

The idea is to allow people to switch exams and minimize the number of inactive moderators. If you are busy for a while, you can ask for exams later in the cycle or in the next cycle. The idea is to make sure we have active moderators and solicit other moderators for exams that need more.

We believe that everyone will get their choices. This procedure is to provide a mechanism to keep an exam in case everyone decides they want to moderate the same exam.

The current procedure is (same as last time):
1) Reply the thread which exams you would like to moderate. Please list your JavaBlackBelt id, how many exams you want along with your order of preference. Also start which exams you currently moderate. You can add another post later when you see how things are going.
2) After some time, we will summarize the current exam selections using the algorithm and people can continue to request the open ones. After two to three weeks, this will become stable and completed.
3) We do the actual exam rotation.
4) If anything is still open, we leave it open as we solicit more moderators.

The algorithm (this may be tweaked a bit once we see how it goes - feel free to add comments in Henryk's thread about the algorithm):
a) Anyone who has written a book or library on the topic (like Vincent Massol) will keep their exams if requested.
b) All moderators requesting to keep an under construction or beta exam will have those preferences honored. This allows continuity during exam creation.
c) The first two released starred exams in the list will be given to the current moderators. Again for continuity.
d) We will go through the #1 preferences first come first served.
e) We will go through the #2 preferences first come first served.
f) Keep going through requests in order of preference

For example:
I am answering this thread first with my choices.

I would like to moderate 5 exams.

Current exams I would like to continue:
1) Java SE Basic*
2) Java OO Basic*
3) Java Collections*
4) Servlet Basic*
5) Servlet Intermed*

If I need more requests, I'll add based on what is free. It is ok to list more preferences than exams you want to moderate.

Re: Exam Leader Rotation

Hi guys,

Sorry that I haven't had the time to keep track with JBB, but lot of things happened in my life since the last time I was active on JBB. The most important one would be that I got hired (at the only company in my town I wanted to work for) as a Java and Ruby developer; I'm not saying this just to brag about it, but I want to thank JBB for the great support that provided me with along the time.

Related to the topic of this thread, I wish to withdraw from the moderator list for the next period of time since I am now to busy with a project at work and completing my BSc project. My user id is 4670153. I wish you all the best! I will get in touch with JBB as soon as my time will allow me to. Thanks again!

PS: sorry that I leave exams behind me unfinished (I remember I started the JSF Intermed exam; hope that there aren't too many)

Re: Exam Leader Rotation

Alex,
That's fine. This is why we do the rotation. It gets inactive people off the list of moderating a particular exam. You will still have moderator access in case you have a few minutes here and there and want to do something. We don't take away moderator rights just because you are busy.

Re: Exam Leader Rotation

Hi

I don't want to moderate any exam officially. I want rather to focus on my admin tasks (creating new exams). At this point I prefer to act as a 'silent moderator' - if some topic gains my attention I just moderate it without the being the formal moderator. This kind of approach fits me better at this moment.

I still learn to manage my spare time (I've been working in my company for less than year) and cannot guarantee to be a full time moderator for any of the exam :)

Best regards.
