This thread is for current moderators. If you are not a moderator and would like to become one, please e-mail me.
Motivated by
Henryk's thread
, we are going to reselect our exams. The idea is to allow people to switch exams and minimize the number of inactive moderators. If you are busy for a while, you can ask for exams later in the cycle or in the next cycle. The idea is to make sure we have active moderators and solicit other moderators for exams that need more.
I strongly suspect that everyone will get their choices. This procedure is to provide a mechanism to keep an exam in case everyone decides they want to moderate the same exam.
The current procedure is:
1) Post in the "exam selection" thread which exams you would like to moderate. Please list your JavaBlackBelt id, how many exams you want along with your order of preference. Also star which exams you currently moderate. You can add another post later when you see how things are going.
2) After a week, I will summarize the current exam selections using the algorithm and people can continue to request the open ones. After two weeks, (I hope) this will be completed.
3) We do the actual exam rotation.
4) If anything is still open, we leave it open as we solicit more moderators.
The algorithm (this may be tweaked a bit once we see how it goes - feel free to add comments in Henryk's thread about the algorithm):
a) Anyone who has written a book or library on the topic (like Vincent Massol) will keep their exams if requested.
b) All moderators requesting to keep an under construction or beta exam will have those preferences honored. This allows continuity during exam creation.
c) The first two released starred exams in the list will be given to the current moderators. Again for continuity.
d) We will go through the #1 preferences first come first served.
e) We will go through the #2 preferences first come first served.
f) Keep going through requests in order of preference
I'm requesting first to provide a sample. In the event everyone wants these exams, I will waive my preference. The next time we do this, I will post about 10 hours later to provide fairness to different time zones.
Eric: That's fine. In fact it is part of the point of this exercise.
All: You don't need to write which exams you currently moderate unless you want to continue moderating them. I can look up what exams you moderate by looking at the home page.
And please write how many exams (max) you want to moderate. Based on Piotr's request, I'm assuming the answer is 4. (the current one and 3 new ones)
I currently moderate (with low activity) two spring exams:
1) Spring Core - Basic
2) Spring Core
I don't especially want to moderate these exams anymore but would prefer to focus on helping creating others.
I would like to create (but not necessarily moderate once it's released) 1 exam.
I am moderating at the moment and want to continue:
1) Java SE 5 New Language Features
2) Java SE 5 New Base Library Features
3) Java SE 5 New Tools and Tool Features
4) Java SE Base API - Basic
5) Java SE Base API - Intermed

Re: 2007 spring - forum selection
JBB id: boyarskyI would like to moderate 4 exams.
Current beta exams I would like to continue:
1) JUnit 4
Order of preference with current exams stared:
1) JUnit Basic *
2) Ant Basic *
3) SQL & RDB *
If I need more requests, I'll add based on what is free. It is ok to list more preferences than exams you want to moderate.
Re: 2007 spring - forum selection
JBB id: dubnessI currently moderate:
1) Java SE Networking Exam
Unfortunately, I will have to resign myself from moderating Java SE Networking for some time.
My workload has increased dramatically in the last few months and I haven't had time to write too many questions or be the best moderator.
If it settles down, I might like to moderate some of the JSP exams, but again that won't be for at least a while.
Thank you all who helped this exam, especially Jeanne for her support. I will still try to support JBB as much as time allows.
